The Madrid City Council has presented its program for Open Government Week 2026, a global initiative that seeks to promote transparency, civic participation, and accountability.

Open Government Week, which will take place between May 18 and 24, is an initiative of the Open Government Partnership, of which the Madrid City Council has been a member since 2016. This alliance aims to establish a culture of transparency, integrity, citizen participation, and the promotion of fundamental rights.
Among the scheduled activities are four visits to municipal units and spaces. On May 19, citizens can visit the Valdemingómez Technology Park and the Suggestions and Complaints Service. On May 20, there will be a visit to the Municipal Police radio station, and on May 21, to the Arroyofresno storm tank.
For City Council staff, a presentation of the Open Budgets website is scheduled for May 18. Additionally, the General Directorate of Citizen Participation will host the II Social Innovation Conference of the THIVIC laboratory 'Innovation in action: from idea to project' on May 20, bringing together various public and social innovation laboratories.
On the same day, in collaboration with the Community of Madrid, a discussion will be held on ten years of the right to access public information. On May 21, a workshop on quality in the municipal sphere will take place, and on May 22, the conference ‘Understanding Madrid from open data and artificial intelligence’ will be held.
Coinciding with this week, the second issue of the magazine Transparencia Madrid has been published, detailing the City Council's actions to promote transparency. An Open Government website has also been launched with digital content, including educational materials for primary students, guides for citizens, teachers, teenagers, and seniors.
Virtual games will also be launched through Decide Madrid's social media accounts, which will also feature videos on Open Government. The transparency promotion advertising campaign will resume, visible on EMT Madrid bus shelters and city mupis. The deputy mayor of Madrid, at the last Governing Board meeting, announced the launch of the Decide Madrid JOVEN digital platform on May 4, to encourage the participation of minors under 18 in the capital.
