The Madrid Cercanías network will experience significant operational changes due to the ongoing works by Adif at Atocha Cercanías station. These actions aim to implement a new track layout to optimize railway traffic management and enable new siding tracks at the Madrid station.
Service disruptions will be concentrated during the weekends of May 1st, 2nd, and 3rd, as well as May 9th and 10th. During these days, trains on the affected lines (C-2, C-7, C-8, and C-10) will operate with a general frequency of 30 minutes, with the exception of line C-8 towards El Escorial and Cercedilla, which will run every 60 minutes.
Regular routes will undergo specific changes. Line C-2, coming from Guadalajara, will run via the Civis track, arriving at Atocha after passing through Chamartín, Nuevos Ministerios, and Recoletos, maintaining a 30-minute frequency. For line C-7, service from Alcalá de Henares will terminate at Atocha, while trains originating from Príncipe Pío will end at Nuevos Ministerios, also with a 30-minute frequency.
Lines C-8a and C-8b will limit their journey between El Escorial/Cercedilla and Chamartín, with a 60-minute frequency (30 minutes on the section from Villalba). Travelers needing to continue to Guadalajara will have to transfer at Chamartín. Line C-10, from Villalba, will terminate at Atocha instead of Chamartín, with a 30-minute frequency.
Additionally, line C-5 will have a specific alteration on the weekend of May 9th and 10th. From the start of service until 10:00 AM, all trains in both directions will begin and end their journey at Atocha, requiring a mandatory transfer to continue the trip.
Renfe has strengthened its communication channels to inform users about these changes. Details of the works and modified schedules are available through train and station public address systems, physical signage, social media, and its official WhatsApp channel.
