La Paz Hospital in Madrid has launched an extraordinary blood donation campaign this Tuesday and Wednesday, in collaboration with the Community of Madrid Transfusion Center, to address the drastic drop in reserves after Easter Holy Week.

The initiative, held in the hospital's central square from 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM, aims to replenish the levels of six blood groups currently at a "red level" of urgency. This marks the twenty-second edition of this campaign at the center, under the motto "Without blood there is no life."

"In a context of tight reserves, any prolonged decline can compromise the necessary supply for surgeries, oncological treatments, emergencies, or complicated deliveries."

Blood groups 0+, 0-, A+, A-, B-, and AB- are currently in the most critical situation. Although groups AB+ and B+ remain at a green level, their donors are urged to participate regularly to ensure system stability and prevent future drops.
The Community of Madrid requires an average of 900 blood bags daily to meet the needs of all its healthcare centers. This constant volume of donations is vital, and holiday periods like Easter Holy Week often lead to a decrease in donor turnout, necessitating extraordinary campaigns like this one.
The marathon is open to all healthy individuals who wish to contribute, not just hospital staff or patient relatives. The goal is to maximize donor recruitment by leveraging the center's visibility and the extended donation hours.
