The initiative, which began a decade ago, has enabled university and high school students to explore the pharmacological potential of soil microorganisms. From the Faculties of Biological Sciences and Pharmacy, professors and researchers have successfully isolated hundreds of microorganisms with interesting bioactivities, contributing to the fight against antimicrobial resistance.
The program is based on citizen science and service-learning, bringing biomedical research closer to adolescents. Its dual objective is to awaken scientific vocations and familiarize students with the inner workings of science, involving them in a real global health problem.
It's not just outreach: it's research with purpose.
Since 2016, MicroMundo has conducted nearly 300 interventions in Madrid's Secondary and Baccalaureate classrooms. Participants not only learn the experimental method but also engage in research processes linked to specific health challenges, consolidating a valuable experience in scientific dissemination and training.
The celebration of the tenth anniversary will take place this Thursday at 6:00 PM in classroom D of the Faculty of Pharmacy. During the event, the course results will be presented, and it will feature the participation of communicators specialized in antimicrobial resistance, highlighting the academic and social impact of the project.
