The Provincial Court of Madrid is commencing the trial of two drivers accused of causing the death of a 35-year-old doctor on the M-30 in July 2021, following an alleged illegal race at over 170 km/h and while under the influence of narcotics.

The Prosecutor's Office asserts that the two defendants raced at speeds far exceeding the legal limits, reaching over 170 kilometers per hour in a section restricted to 70 km/h, and while under the influence of various drugs. This behavior culminated in a chain-reaction accident that resulted in the death of Juan Alfredo, a doctor returning home after his shift at the Fundación Jiménez Díaz Hospital.
The incident, which will be heard by a popular jury, took place on July 25, 2021, at 11:26 AM on the M-30, near the bypass. According to the Public Prosecutor's Office, the collision originated after an altercation between the drivers, who then began a race through the tunnel, performing zigzag overtakes and abrupt lane changes, turning the road into an extremely dangerous scenario.
One of the vehicles collided with the victim's car, triggering the fatal accident. Juan Alfredo, 35, died instantly, leaving behind his partner, also a doctor and pregnant, and a daughter. The investigation also revealed that both accused tested positive for illicit substances including cocaine, cannabis, MDMA, and ketamine.
Furthermore, the Prosecutor's Office noted that one of the individuals involved was driving without a license, having lost all his points, a factor that exacerbates his legal situation. They are charged with reckless driving with blatant disregard for life, homicide, and injuries, with prosecutors seeking sentences of up to 15 years in prison.
