Three Seriously Injured on M-40 After Head-on Collision During Police Chase

A serious traffic accident on Madrid's M-40 has left three people in critical condition following a head-on collision between a van and a car fleeing the National Police.

The incident took place around 4:30 AM this Tuesday at exit 19A of the inner lane of the M-40. A car, driving against traffic while being pursued by the National Police, collided head-on with a van.
The severe impact trapped both drivers, requiring rescue by the Madrid City Fire Department. Emergency services attended to four individuals, three of whom sustained serious injuries.
The car driver, a 34-year-old man, was intubated and transported with a trauma code to Hospital 12 de Octubre due to thoracoabdominal and pelvic trauma. The van driver, 45 years old, suffered thoracoabdominal trauma and was evacuated as potentially serious to Hospital La Paz. A woman around 30 years old was also seriously injured with thoracoabdominal trauma and taken to Hospital Gregorio Marañón. A fourth person, a 23-year-old woman, was evacuated to Hospital 12 de Octubre with a minor head injury.
The Madrid Municipal Police escorted the medical convoys for the most severely injured patients. The National Police has launched an investigation to clarify the circumstances of the accident.
