The Almudena Cemetery in Madrid is once again hosting its nighttime theatrical tours, a cultural event that revives illustrious figures buried within its grounds.

The initiative, organized by Madrid Funeral Services (SFM), runs from Wednesday to Sunday until September 6th. These tours blend explanations from a specialized guide with scenes performed by two actors embodying relevant writers, scientists, artists, and athletes.
Actors, with makeup simulating the deceased emerging from their tombs, recreate key moments of figures such as Borges, the Titanic survivor, Ocaña, Ramón y Cajal, Lola Flores and her son Antonio Flores, or tennis player Lili Álvarez. These performances aim to share their stories in an "entertaining and accessible" manner, according to Antonio Santos of SFM.
The tours last approximately two and a half hours, with a limited capacity of 30 people and are recommended for ages 10 and up. Start times vary by month, beginning at 21:00 in June and July, 20:30 in August, and 20:00 in September.
This marks the fourth edition of these tours, which have seen high demand in previous years, with tickets selling out. Sales are conducted through the official SFM booking platform. Visitors are asked to refrain from recording and to avoid unnecessary use of lights or mobile phones to maintain the nighttime ambiance.
SFM also offers other cultural activities throughout the year, including guided tours, concerts, and talks, exploring the largest cemetery in Western Europe from diverse perspectives. A second nighttime route focusing on pantheons and mausoleums is planned for the upcoming season.
