The Community of Madrid has launched the call for the 2026 Research Awards, which honor the excellence and careers of scientists and young researchers in the region, with a submission deadline of May 22.

These awards, named Miguel Catalán, Julián Marías, and Margarita Salas, seek to acknowledge both established professional careers and the work of young talents in the field of research. The initiative underscores the regional government's commitment to fostering knowledge and innovation in the area.
The call, published in the Official Gazette of the Community of Madrid, is aimed at professionals working in universities, research centers, and scientific institutions within the region. Applications must be proposed by research groups or institutions, not individually, and the deadline for submission is May 22.

"These awards are an essential tool to recognize consolidated and emerging talent in various branches of knowledge, boosting research in our region."

The awards are divided into three main categories: the Miguel Catalán for science and engineering, technology, geology, and architecture; the Julián Marías for humanities and social sciences; and the Margarita Salas for biosciences, covering both basic and applied research. The financial endowments amount to 42,000 euros for the scientific career category and 21,000 euros for researchers under 40 years of age.
The scientific career category evaluates the accumulated trajectory, training, and national and international impact of the researcher's work over the years. Meanwhile, the category for those under 40 focuses on the quality, projection, and excellence of the work developed in the earlier stages of their research career.
