The conference, organized by the hospital complex in collaboration with the Fenin Foundation, adELA, and the Polytechnic University of Madrid, addressed the present and future of technology applied to ALS care. The primary goal is to advance resources that, while not curing the disease, significantly improve the care and quality of life for those affected.
“"Administrations have a moral obligation to improve the daily lives of those suffering from this disease, especially in its advanced stages, when the loss of mobility and communication demands greater technical and human support."
During the event, the importance of technology as a fundamental tool to address the specific needs of patients and their families was highlighted. Collaboration among different stakeholders aims to find advanced solutions that enable more humane and effective care.
Among the innovations already implemented at the Specialized Day Care Center for ALS Patients (CEADELA), a state-of-the-art robotic exoskeleton was mentioned. Recently, another robot designed for the upper limb has been incorporated, thus expanding the possibilities for assistance and functional rehabilitation for patients.
Furthermore, the Voice Bank for ALS patients was recalled, an initiative that already involves nearly fifty people. This tool is crucial for preserving patients' voices before the disease severely affects speech, a particularly relevant aspect in a pathology that progressively deteriorates communication ability.
One of the most notable announcements of the conference was the plan to create a new specialized area at the Enfermera Isabel Zendal Hospital, dedicated to the care of ALS patients, reinforcing the commitment to continuous improvement of care.
