Matadero Madrid transforms into an open-air cinema from July 2nd to 26th for the ninth 'CinePlaza', themed 'Superestrellas 3', combining film screenings, concerts, and live discussions.

Matadero Madrid will host the ninth edition of its summer ‘CinePlaza’, running from July 2nd to July 26th under the title ‘Superestrellas 3’. This event will turn the plaza into an open-air cinema, offering a program that blends film screenings, concerts, and live commentary sessions.
The festival will take place from Thursdays to Sundays and will feature a total of 11 films, two cine-concerts, and three special commented screenings. The opening, on July 2nd, will include an audiovisual concert by Christina Rosenvinge, exploring her connection to cinema as an actress and film score composer.
The second cine-concert will be presented by the duo Hidrogenesse on July 16th, with a show conceived around cinematic references and accompanied by an audiovisual montage created for the occasion. Additionally, three special live commentary sessions will be held.
Among the highlighted activities, filmmaker Nacho Vigalondo will host a surprise evening on July 5th, sharing his cinematic influences and reflections on the audiovisual medium. On July 9th, Brays Efe and Miguel Agnes will present an expanded edition of their film club ‘Linterna XL’, focusing on Ettore Scola’s film ‘La sala de baile’.
The commented sessions will conclude on July 23rd with a special screening of ‘The Witches of Eastwick’, featuring live commentary from journalist and cultural critic Alberto Rey.
The film program also includes 11 feature films grouped into three cinematic universes: queer musical, yeyé cinema, and the blaxploitation genre. Titles such as ‘Coffy’, ‘Super Fly’, ‘Foxy Brown’, ‘Barbarella’, ‘How to Get It’, ‘The Knack… and How to Get It’, ‘Bixa Travesty’, ‘Neptune Frost’, ‘Only Lovers Left Alive’, and ‘Reír, cantar, tal vez llorar’ by Spanish director Marc Ferrer, will be screened in their original version with subtitles.
Screenings will begin at 10:15 PM, except for the ‘Linterna XL’ special session at 9:30 PM. Tickets are priced at 3.50 euros for regular screenings, 5 euros for commented sessions, and 10 euros for cine-concerts. They can be purchased in advance via the Cineteca Madrid website or at the box office.
