The annual report from the Directorate-General for Traffic (DGT) shows record-breaking revenue nationwide, exceeding 246 million euros. According to the analysis by European Motorists Associates, sanction pressure in the Madrid region remains among the highest in the country, surpassed only by the province of Valencia.
The study highlights that the increase in revenue is not due to widespread driver indiscipline, but rather the activation of new control devices at strategic locations. Nationally, there is a high concentration of fines: a small group of 50 radars, out of more than 1,000 in operation, accounted for over 1.3 million penalties.
While areas such as Madrid, Valencia, and Cádiz lead in revenue, other provinces like Orense, Cáceres, and Salamanca report significantly lower figures. The association has questioned the effectiveness of this policy, noting that most fines are issued on high-capacity roads, far from the secondary roads where the majority of accidents with casualties occur.
