The Government has confirmed that the fourteen Spanish citizens aboard the 'MV Hondius' cruise ship, where a hantavirus outbreak has been detected, will be transferred to Madrid for a comprehensive health evaluation.
The vessel 'MV Hondius', which has reported a hantavirus outbreak resulting in three deaths, is expected to arrive within the next three days at the secondary port of Granadilla, in Tenerife. From there, the fourteen Spanish citizens on board, all asymptomatic, will be transported by military aircraft to the Torrejón de Ardoz base and subsequently to Madrid's Gómez Ulla Military Hospital for examination.
“
"The situation is «under control» and «all security measures» will be guaranteed to prevent the transmission of hantavirus from the ship's docking at the Canary Islands port of Granadilla."
The decision was announced at a press conference by the Minister of Health and the Minister of the Interior, who explained that this responds to the World Health Organization (WHO)'s request for assistance, in compliance with international law and humanitarian spirit. The Government has assured that the situation is under control.
Once in Madrid, the citizens will remain under observation and undergo relevant tests. The Executive highlighted that the port of Granadilla, being secondary with low activity, facilitates the implementation of necessary security measures. Of the fourteen Spaniards, three are residents of Madrid.

"Once there, a joint mechanism for health evaluation and evacuation will be put in place to repatriate all passengers, unless their medical condition prevents it."
