The building, granted for a 50-year period, will undergo an architectural intervention led by the Langarita-Navarro studio. This team, which previously worked on the site in 2013, aims to transform the ground floor into an open and accessible urban hall that connects the cultural center with plaza de las Letras and the nearby streets of Cenicero and Almadén.
The transformation will extend beyond the building's interior to its surrounding area. The municipal plan includes a comprehensive renovation of plaza de las Letras to improve accessibility, removing uneven surfaces through the installation of ramps, new seating areas, and tiered seating. Additionally, Cenicero and Almadén streets will be pedestrianized and redeveloped, incorporating improvements to paving, lighting, and urban furniture.
This initiative seeks to integrate the space into the capital's museum axis, strengthening its position alongside major institutions. The new cultural center is expected to be fully operational by autumn 2027, moving beyond its role as a mere cultural container to become a hub for public engagement.
