Inma Sanz, delegate for Security and Emergencies for the City Council of Madrid, stated she has a "thorn in her side" regarding the inability to equip the capital with the full complement of police officers she deems necessary. Speaking at a press conference following the Governing Board meeting, Sanz indicated that this demand is not a "whim" of her administration but a "pressing need" for the city.
The delegate recalled that Madrid currently has more inhabitants than 25 years ago, a period during which, according to her, the city had a thousand more officers on its streets. Sanz lamented the lack of understanding from the Spanish Government regarding this need to increase the police force.
“"Madrid has more people than 25 years ago, when Alberto Rodríguez-Gallardón had a thousand more police officers on our streets."
As a positive assessment of her term, Sanz highlighted the agreement reached with the Municipal Police, calling it an "extraordinary piece of news for the officers." This agreement, according to the delegate, "substantially improves their working conditions," addressing specific issues such as rest periods and compensation for working hours.
