Renfe Cercanías Madrid has announced the launch of the twentieth edition of its Short Story Contest 'The Train and the Journey', an initiative designed to promote reading among its service users.

The competition, open until May 25, 2026, invites participants to submit stories of up to 99 words, focusing on the theme of the commuter train and its surroundings.
Since its inception in 2007, this contest has been held without interruption, establishing itself as a tradition that has attracted nearly 30,000 participants over its various editions.
The winner of this edition will be awarded a trip for two people on daytime trains to any destination on the peninsula, including an overnight stay in a double room with breakfast at the Parador de Alcalá de Henares.
The second-place winner will also receive a trip for two on the Cervantes Train, with an overnight stay in a double room and breakfast at the same Parador de Alcalá. The full terms and conditions of the contest are available on the Cercanías Madrid section of the Renfe website.
