The works at Atocha station, carried out by Adif, aim to establish a new track layout and enable new siding tracks, which will impact the operation of several Cercanías Madrid lines. Users of lines C-2, C-7, C-8, and C-10 will experience a reduction in train frequency, while line C-5 will have a specific impact during the early morning hours on certain dates.
The main consequence for travelers will be a lower train frequency. Lines C-2, C-7, C-8, and C-10 will operate with a 30-minute frequency during the affected weekends. For line C-8, waiting times for services to El Escorial or Cercedilla could extend up to an hour.
In addition to reduced frequencies, several usual routes will be altered. Trains on line C-2 (Guadalajara - Chamartín-Clara Campoamor) will run from Guadalajara to Atocha via the Civis track, passing through Chamartín, Nuevos Ministerios, and Recoletos. On line C-7, trains from Alcalá de Henares will terminate at Atocha, and those departing from Príncipe Pío will end at Nuevos Ministerios.
Line C-10 will also see changes, with services from Villalba concluding at Atocha instead of Chamartín. Line C-8 will be operationally divided into C-8a (Atocha - Santa María de la Alameda) and C-8b (Guadalajara - Cercedilla), requiring transfers at Chamartín for travelers between El Escorial, Cercedilla, and Guadalajara.
Line C-5 (Móstoles El Soto - Humanes) will be partially affected during the mornings of the weekends of April 25 and 26 and May 9 and 10, until 10:00 AM. Trains on this line will start and end their journey at Atocha, requiring passengers to transfer if they need to continue beyond this station.
Renfe has activated an information campaign to communicate these changes to users through public address systems on trains and stations, physical signage, social media messages, and its WhatsApp channel. Passengers are advised to check their routes in advance to avoid inconveniences.
