The Community of Madrid has issued a red alert due to a significant drop in blood reserves, which currently stand at 35% of their total capacity.

The regional government has warned that current stocks only guarantee medical needs, including surgeries and urgent treatments, for approximately one and a half days. To maintain stable supply levels throughout the summer, the healthcare system requires 1,000 daily donations.
This situation contrasts with the levels recorded at the same time last year, when reserves reached 88%. Official data indicates that hospital demand remains steady, while donations have steadily declined since the beginning of June.

"We need approximately one thousand daily donations to recover our reserves. Therefore, donating blood saves lives, gives life, and you should go now to the donation points."

Blood components have a limited shelf life and cannot be replaced by other medical treatments. Complex procedures, such as liver transplants, can require between 30 and 200 units of blood, with up to 38,000 units needed annually for such interventions in the region.
Citizens can visit donation points at thirty hospitals across the Community of Madrid, as well as mobile units and centers managed by the Red Cross and the Transfusion Center.
