The Prado Museum inaugurates the exhibition 'Prado. Siglo XXI', which documents the art institution's evolution and institutional milestones during the first 25 years of the millennium.

The exhibition Prado. Siglo XXI, open to the public until September 27, offers a journey through the museum's transformation since the year 2000. The show highlights the acquisition of 14,203 works for its collection and other institutional achievements.
The Minister of Culture, Tourism and Sport, Mariano de Paco Serrano, presented the initiative, describing the Prado as an institution "alive, open, and constantly evolving". The Community of Madrid collaborates on this exhibition, part of the strategic relationship between both entities, reinforcing Madrid's position as "one of the great capitals of European art" alongside the Reina Sofía and the Thyssen.
De Paco emphasized the Prado's role as a driver of cultural tourism, noting that in 2025 it received over 3.5 million visitors. "The more than 3.5 million visitors it received in 2025 are the best proof of this. The exhibition we present today also reflects that it is a living, open, and constantly evolving institution, which continues to be an international benchmark," he stated.
The collaboration between the Community and the museum extends to other initiatives such as the exhibition 'Rilke and Spanish Art'. Both aim to promote quality cultural tourism and strengthen the regional artistic offerings, in line with the Regional Tourism Strategy 2023/26.
An agreement worth 150,000 euros has been formalized for the period from June 2026 to March 2027. "From this regional Government, we understand that our obligation is to support all institutions, whether public or private, that work for culture and heritage," declared De Paco.
The exhibition Prado. Siglo XXI details museography, conservation, and visitor services, and includes all books published by the museum since 2000, graphic documentation from the Study Center, and videos on restoration and communication.
