The Madrid City Council is rehabilitating the Prado 30 building to establish a municipal cultural space and a Community of Madrid health center, with a total investment of 7.4 million euros and completion expected by next autumn.

The Deputy Mayor of Madrid and delegate for Security and Emergencies, Inma Sanz, accompanied by the delegate for Works and Equipment, Paloma García Romero, and the councilor for the Centro district, Carlos Segura, visited the ongoing works at Prado 30. This property, which was occupied between May 2017 and November 2019 before being evicted by José Luis Martínez-Almeida's municipal government, is now being transformed into a valuable resource for citizens.
The project is proceeding in two parallel phases. The first phase, budgeted at 3.9 million euros, focuses on the structural consolidation of the building, improving accessibility and fire evacuation systems, and restoring protected elements such as the facades and the main hall. This stage, which began last May, is funded 48% by the City Council and 52% by the Community of Madrid, based on the area each future facility will occupy.
The second phase, fully funded by the City Council with an investment of 3.5 million euros, is dedicated to creating the cultural space in the north wing of the building. This area will feature multipurpose classrooms, an exhibition hall, an assembly hall, and spaces for sports activities like yoga and pilates, along with a study room on the fourth floor. The remainder of the building will house the health center.
Collaboration between the City Council and the Community of Madrid has been crucial for this initiative. After the building's recovery in November 2019, the Community requested a partial transfer for the health center, while the City Council decided to establish the cultural space. The technical complexity of the intervention, involving structural and foundation reinforcements, led to the decision for the City Council to undertake the structural works to ensure efficient execution.
