The Minister of Economy, Finance, and Employment of the Community of Madrid, Rocío Albert, has announced that Pope Leo XIV's visit to the capital will leave an economic impact exceeding 120 million euros in the region, improving upon the initial estimate of 100 million.
Albert highlighted the high hotel occupancy, which exceeded 85%, and the turnout in restaurants, stating that the visit demonstrated the region's joy and commitment to faith. "All of Madrid rallied" for the Pontiff's visit, calling it "an enormous honor" and emphasizing the "cohesion" and "will to live" of Madrid's society.
The minister stressed that the preparations for the visit created direct jobs in construction and horticulture, as well as a "clear effect on tourism and projection to the world." She recalled the presence of over 2,500 international press representatives at the Real Casa de Correos, projecting Madrid's image globally.
Meanwhile, the Minister of Housing, Transport, and Infrastructure, Jorge Rodrigo, described the mobility plan implemented over the weekend as a "success." This plan, which reinforced public transport (Metro, Cercanías, EMT, and interurban buses), managed the "extraordinary influx" during events like the Vigil with youth in Plaza de Lima and the Holy Mass in Plaza de Cibeles, which drew over 1.2 million attendees, without significant incidents.
