His Holiness Pope Leo XIV will visit Madrid from June 6 to June 12, 2026, accepting an invitation from King Felipe VI and the Church in Spain. His itinerary includes presiding over the Corpus Christi celebration in Plaza de Cibeles and attending an event at Movistar Arena.

His Holiness Pope Leo XIV will undertake his apostolic journey to Spain between June 6 and June 12, 2026. The visit is in response to an invitation extended by King Felipe VI and the Church in Spain. During his stay in Madrid, a city the supreme representative of the Catholic Church had not visited in 15 years, the Pontiff will be present from June 6 to June 9. The central event is scheduled for Sunday, June 7, at the Plaza de Cibeles.
The day of Sunday, June 7, will commence with the celebration of Corpus Christi. Pope Leo XIV will preside over a solemn Mass in Madrid, followed by a Eucharistic procession and a blessing with the Blessed Sacrament in the iconic Plaza de Cibeles. This liturgical event will be supported by extensive organizational resources, including choirs, an orchestra, and thousands of ministers and volunteers for the distribution of communion.
The Eucharistic procession will depart from the Plaza de Cibeles via Calle Alcalá towards Gran Vía, turning towards the Church of San José to return to Cibeles via the opposite lane. The Eucharistic celebration will take place on a stage set up in front of the main facade of the Palacio de Cibeles, with the participation of deacons, masters of ceremonies, lectors, acolytes, and offerers. A choir and orchestra of approximately 400 members will enhance the ceremony.
For the distribution of communion to the thousands of faithful attendees, a strategic plan has been implemented. Concelebrating priests will serve those closest to the plaza, while extraordinary ministers of communion will attend to the rest. A total of 2,300 pyxes, each containing 200 hosts, will be used. Communion, including options for celiacs, will also be distributed from six Eucharistic churches open until 2:00 PM: the Parish of San José, the Basilica of Jesús de Medinaceli, the Parish of San Jerónimo el Real, the Parish of San Manuel y San Benito, the Parish of Santa Bárbara, and the Centro Cultural de la Villa at Plaza de Colón.
Pope Leo XIV will travel to the celebration venue by popemobile, departing around 9:30 AM from the Instituto Ramiro de Maeztu. His route will include Calle Serrano, Calle Goya, and Plaza de Colón, finally accessing the area of the Plaza de Cibeles.
In the afternoon, the Pontiff will preside over the event titled 'Tejer Redes' (Weaving Networks) at the Movistar Arena. This gathering focuses on dialogue between the Church and various sectors of social life, including education, culture, business, and sports. The event, aimed at highlighting the contributions of individuals and institutions to the common good, will feature prominent figures such as actor Antonio Banderas, dancer Sara Baras, the Vice-Rector of the Complutense University of Madrid, José María Coello de Portugal, and the top representatives of unions and employers' associations, including Pepe Álvarez (UGT), Unai Sordo (CC.OO.), Antonio Garamendi (CEOE), and Ángela de Miguel (CEPYME).
The world of sports will be represented by Olympic champion Carolina Marín and Paralympic athlete Teresa Perales, who will share reflections on resilience and inclusion. The event, hosted by journalists Lara Síscar and Carlos Franganillo, will include dance, music, and singing performances. Singer Rozalén will conclude the event.
To reach the Movistar Arena, Pope Leo XIV will travel by popemobile from the Apostolic Nunciature, boarding the vehicle on Calle de O’Donnell. The planned route will pass through Calle de O’Donnell, Doctor Esquerdo, Calle de Goya, arriving at the venue.
