A serious incident occurred in early September in Madrid's Fuencarral-El Pardo district, when a Senegalese youth, born in 2001, was shot by the Madrid Municipal Police. The events began with an assault on a Metro security guard at the Pitis station.
After the initial assault, the suspect fled, also attacking officers who tried to apprehend him. He subsequently broke into a couple's home on Avenida Ventisquero de la Condesa, where he held them hostage while shouting "Allahu Akbar" and carrying at least three knives.
Upon arrival and given the individual's continued hostile behavior, officers deployed a taser. However, due to the young man wearing multiple layers of clothing, the electric shock did not have the intended effect. The suspect then managed to cut the taser's wires with one of the knives he carried.
Ultimately, a municipal officer was forced to shoot him with her service weapon. The individual received medical attention from Samur-Civil Protection paramedics at the scene and was later transported to a hospital in the capital. Police sources do not rule out potential imprisonment once he recovers from his injuries.
Agents from both the Municipal Police and the National Police participated in the operation. The Homicide Brigade of the National Police is currently investigating the case. The deputy mayor of Madrid, Inma Sanz, has expressed her support for the intervening units and requested discretion as the investigation progresses.
