Madrid's Paseo de Recoletos will once again become a literary hub with the celebration of the 48th Antique and Second-Hand Book Fair, an event expected to draw thousands of book lovers.

From April 30 to May 17, this iconic location will host 37 specialized bookstores, offering a vast selection of books for all tastes and budgets. Visitors can find everything from bargain books to genuine bibliographic treasures, including incunabula, signed first editions, and original manuscripts.

"We are a benchmark both in terms of sales volume and the quality of the items, many of which are impossible to find in regular commercial circuits, attracting thousands of readers, bibliophiles, researchers, and curious individuals each year."

the president of the organizing association
Organized since 1977 by the Madrid Association of Second-Hand Booksellers, the fair has established itself as the most important of its kind in Spain. The official opening will be on Thursday, April 30, at 12:30 PM, with the traditional opening speech delivered by the renowned writer and journalist Julia Navarro, author of bestsellers such as Dime quién soy and Dispara, yo ya estoy muerto.
The visual identity for this edition was created by illustrator Juan Berrio, who pays homage to the 150th anniversary of Editorial Calleja with an aesthetic inspired by 1950s poster art. Additionally, the fair will feature a facsimile edition of the 1911 catalog from the Casa Editorial founded by Saturnino Calleja, a pivotal figure in Spanish children's literature.
As part of the complementary activities, ‘Saturdays in Recoletos’ will return, including poster signings and live drawing sessions with Juan Berrio and Raúl Fernández Calleja. Free historical walks through the area will also be offered, coordinated by experts who will delve into the relationship between Paseo de Recoletos and the world of books, enriching the cultural experience for attendees.
