The play, which can be seen in the Max Aub hall from October 1st to November 1st, is a joint production by Nave 10 Matadero and Buxman Producciones. It narrates the trajectory of a punk band from the late 80s and early 90s, exploring its rise and subsequent decline.
Through monologues and interwoven dialogues, the piece reconstructs the lives of two of its key members: Kike and Segis, sons of a Francoist civil servant. The play's structure evokes a cassette tape, divided into 'side A' and 'side B', accompanying the story of the eponymous band's ascent and fall.
On 'side A', Kike, the older brother and manager, details the childhood of Segis, the vocalist, describing a rebellious youth who defied his father's authority and any power structure. 'Side B' presents testimonies from the band members about the peak and disintegration of 'Verborrea' and its singer, who transforms into the mythical figure known as Segismundo Tóxico.
The result is an oral narrative, woven with memories that complement and sometimes contradict each other, similar to a music documentary. The production marks the reunion of Pablo Remón with actors Javier Cámara, Israel Elejalde, Marta Nieto, and Emilio Tomé, who previously collaborated almost three years ago in 'Vania x Vania'.
Javier Cámara plays Kike, the older brother, responsible for presenting the band's more accessible side. Israel Elejalde portrays Segis, the rebellious singer turned myth, representing the relationship between rebellion, dissent, self-destruction, and heritage. Marta Nieto embodies Lola Metralla, the bassist and sole female member, whose deep and tender perspective on the band anchors much of 'side B'. Emilio Tomé takes on a dual role: Teodoro, the oppressive father, and Johnny Casetes, the band's drummer and the brothers' childhood friend.
The staging is characterized by its essentiality and formal minimalism, with the actors remaining on stage throughout the performance. Words and sound take center stage, inviting the audience's imagination. The artistic team includes scenography by Monica Boromello, lighting by David Picazo, costume design by Ana López Cóbos, and sound design by Sandra Vicente.
