The Community of Madrid registered 220,000 blood donations last year, thanks to the contribution of 169,000 citizens, which allows for maintaining the necessary reserves for hospital demand.

The balance presented by the Transfusion Center on World Blood Donor Day reveals that this figure is crucial for meeting transfusion needs in the region's hospitals.
Transfusions are vital in various medical procedures. A knee or hip surgery can require between two and five donations, while a bone marrow transplant may need up to 200 donations, in addition to platelets and plasma.

"What is necessary for the Community of Madrid to maintain its reserves and for us to meet all transfusion demands in our hospitals."

Diego Cobo, Deputy Director of Nursing at the Transfusion Center, highlighted the efficiency of the process, with the extraction taking approximately ten minutes after a prior clinical interview that ensures safety.
Regular donors shared their experiences, agreeing on the solidarity aspect of donation. Some expressed that contributing in this way "makes you proud as a person" by helping those in need.
Those interested in donating can go to donation buses, the Transfusion Center of the Community of Madrid, or the fixed points in various hospitals. The initiative is aimed at individuals between 18 and 65 years old.
