The State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) has issued an orange alert for heavy rain and storms for this Wednesday, April 29, in the Metropolitan and Henares areas of Madrid, prompting the City Council to activate its flood action plan.

The alert, communicated by the 112 of the Community of Madrid, will be in effect from 12:00 to 22:00 hours. Storms are expected to be accompanied by hail and strong winds.
For the rest of the region, a yellow alert has been issued for the same period, anticipating rainfall and storms that, although less intense, could be strong at times.
Given this situation, the Madrid City Council, through Emergencias Madrid, has activated the Flood Action Plan (PAINUNAM) at level 0, which implies a phase of alert and continuous monitoring of the meteorological situation.

"It is recommended to exercise extreme caution, especially when traveling and in areas prone to water accumulation."

the Madrid City Council
The City Council has disseminated a series of basic recommendations for citizens. In urban areas, it is advised to seek shelter in buildings, close doors and windows, disconnect electrical appliances, and have flashlights ready for potential power outages.
In rural areas, people are asked to avoid elevated areas and isolated trees, stay away from metal objects, and, in case of an electrical storm, adopt a safe position. It is also reminded that a vehicle can serve as a safe refuge.
In the face of intense rainfall, it is emphasized not to cross flooded areas, stay away from watercourses and low-lying areas, and avoid parking in flood-prone locations. Additionally, it is recommended to remove objects from balconies and secure any elements that could be blown away by the wind.
