Prince Albert II of Monaco will visit Madrid on June 1 and 2 to inaugurate the exhibition Monaco and Spain, five centuries of shared history at the Royal Botanical Garden, commemorating 150 years since the principality's first diplomatic mission in Spain.

The exhibition, which reviews the common trajectory between both countries, is part of the celebration of 150 years since the establishment of Monaco's first diplomatic mission in Spain, as reported by the Principality's Embassy.
Prince Albert II's visit will not be official, in line with his previous trips as the Monegasque head of state. The main event of his stay in Madrid will be the opening of this significant exhibition.
King Felipe VI has received the Prince of Monaco on several occasions in recent years, including a lunch in October 2022. The current visit opens the possibility of a new meeting between the two heads of state, although it has not been officially confirmed.
In recent visits, the Prince of Monaco has also traveled to other Spanish regions, such as Burgos in July 2022 and Puente Viesgo in Cantabria in October 2025, highlighting the principality's interest in maintaining ties with various areas of the country.
The Monaco ambassador in Madrid has revealed that Prince Albert II has extended an invitation to King Felipe VI to attend the events for the 500th anniversary of Charles I of Spain's visit to the principality in 2029. This invitation could mark the Spanish monarch's first official visit to Monaco since his ascension to the throne.

"There is a very close relationship and friendship between both royal houses, and there is a very good relationship between Albert II and Felipe VI."

Despite this close relationship, to date there has been no state or official visit by the Kings of Spain or the Monegasque head of state. The ambassador hopes that the invitation for the 500th anniversary will be accepted, which would change this situation.
