The piece, crafted by the Municipal Printing Press-Book Arts, stands out for its artistic binding inspired by Vatican library tradition, specially designed for the Pontiff. The binding workshop employed traditional techniques to create a highly valuable copy.
Martínez-Almeida stated that the Holy Father's visit is an event of special significance for Madrid, and that the book aims to be a symbol of respect, closeness, and recognition for the values he represents to millions worldwide.
In addition to the book, the Pope received a rosary, thirty decenarios, and watercolors of emblematic Madrid buildings, all made by individuals with intellectual disabilities from the Götze Foundation. He will also enjoy almond pastries prepared by the twelve Augustinian Recollect nuns from the Royal Monastery of Santa Isabel.
The special edition of the book, hand-sewn and bound in white chagrin, features a baroque-inspired frame and a bronze engraving by Olivares. The original 1629 work is one of the most exhaustive accounts of Madrid's history.
