The initiative, held on Thursday at the Casa del Lector auditorium, had a single requirement for attendees: to bring a book to read and discuss. This simple concept attracted a diverse audience, from young people to adults, interested in sharing their passion for reading.
“"The gathering transforms reading into a social and collective act."
According to municipal sources, these types of events, which combine personal reading with the exchange of ideas, have gained popularity in major cities such as New York, London, and Rome. The Spanish capital, with its vibrant cultural life, joins this trend, offering spaces for a more participatory approach to books.
The proposal was described by the artistic director of Matadero Madrid as a "literary picnic for reading and conversing." The session integrated reading, music, and dialogue among participants, all within an environment designed for comfort and interaction. Composer and DJ Luis Miguel Cobo created a soundscape that accompanied the different dynamics of the event.
The activity, which began at 7 PM, sold out its registrations in just a few hours, demonstrating significant public interest. The auditorium was transformed for the occasion with elements such as grass, hammocks, and tables, creating a welcoming space where attendees could sit in small groups and alternate moments of silent reading with conversations about their favorite texts.
