Throughout the summer months, Madrid becomes a destination to enjoy culture and escape the high temperatures thanks to two municipal initiatives. Matadero Madrid and CentroCentro will open their doors offering free access, rest areas, and diverse programming designed for citizen well-being.
At Matadero Madrid, Nave Una will host the program 'A Living Room for the City' until July 31st. This space, managed by Intermediae, is conceived as an urban lounge of hospitality, open from Tuesday to Sunday, 12 PM to 9 PM. Visitors can enjoy free activities including music, conversation, listening, reading, performances, and dance, with no prior registration required.
The programming at Matadero includes concerts, soundscapes, open conversations, and artist encounters. Notably, Spasticus Artisticus, a collective bringing together individuals with disabilities and other conditions, participates, promoting cultural inclusion. The schedule kicks off with 'Open Studio' by Yuan iuan (June 30 - July 3), followed by 'Building Community Through Self-Defense' by Gada 7 (July 5), and a gathering by the Spasticus Artisticus collective (July 9).
Other featured activities at Matadero include workshops and environmental actions by 'Madrid 360 Joven' (July 10), 'Emotional Communities' with Inés Plasencia Camps and Las Lindas Pobres (July 15), and 'Listening and Refuge Afternoons' with Campos de Marte and Marco Padiya (July 22-23). The program concludes on July 30th with 'Transfer,' a sound drift by Iren Márquez Dos Santos and Euyín Eugene.
Meanwhile, CentroCentro will open its Vegetal Cultural Space from July 3rd to August 30th, Tuesdays to Sundays from 10 AM to 8 PM. This urban oasis will offer a place for rest, reading, and connection with nature, incorporating vegetation and publications. Among its offerings are a botanical drawing workshop led by Marta Chirino and a performative flamenco show by dancer Ofelia Márquez on August 7th.
