Section 27 of the Provincial Court of Madrid will hold the oral hearing this coming Tuesday, May 19, 2026, against a citizen of Romanian nationality, C. P., accused of attempting to end the life of his romantic partner, I. A. B. The Public Prosecutor's Office classifies the events as constituting a crime of attempted murder and another of assault within the family, concurrent with the aggravating circumstances of kinship and gender.
The events, which took place at midnight on September 4, 2024, in Villanueva del Pardillo, were triggered by the accused's refusal to accept the breakup of the relationship. According to the provisional indictment, the defendant, in a clear state of intoxication, physically assaulted the victim in the living room and, after briefly leaving the house, returned with a gasoline canister. He forced the woman to stand up and poured the fuel all over her body while threatening to kill her.
The victim managed to escape and take refuge at the local police station in Villanueva del Pardillo, at which point the aggressor desisted. He then threw the gasoline canister into a nearby dumpster. As a result of the physical assault, the woman suffered a contusion causing bruising on her head and neck, and a small scar on her eardrum, injuries that took 20 days to heal.
The accused has been in provisional detention without bail since the day of the events, September 4, 2024. The Provincial Prosecutor's Office of Madrid is seeking 14 years and 9 months of imprisonment for the attempted murder charge, along with disqualification, a restraining order, and supervised liberty. It also requests 1 year of imprisonment for the family assault charge, along with other disqualifications and communication bans. In terms of civil liability, the Public Prosecutor requests compensation of 1,500 euros for physical damages and an additional 20,000 euros for moral damages.
