The blaze started around 9:00 PM in a residential building on Arechavaleta Street. Smoke quickly filled the stairwell and reached the upper floors, prompting the resident to exit his home through the window.
Following the fall, the man sustained a severe traumatic brain injury and leg fractures, and suffered a cardiac arrest. Emergency medical teams managed to stabilize him before transporting him to the 12 de Octubre Hospital.
During the operation, Madrid City Council Firefighters instructed residents to remain confined in their homes for safety. Once the fire was under control, residents were allowed to return, though they were advised against staying overnight until ventilation was complete.
The total toll of the incident includes 13 other people treated by SAMUR and SUMMA, two of whom were taken to the hospital. SAMUR Social has provided emergency accommodation to two families affected by the fire.
