The Department of Childhood and Youth of the San Martín de la Vega City Council has expanded the offer of the Youth Chess School Club, adding a new group for adults that will be held on Tuesdays from 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Territorio Joven.
This initiative responds to requests received from parents of students, as well as other residents interested in learning, practicing, and enjoying chess. The project, launched in 2024, aims to offer healthy and educational leisure alternatives, and now extends to all ages.
The adult sessions, led by Andrés Ingunza, the club's manager, will begin next Tuesday, September 29. Participants will have the opportunity to start or continue learning chess, regardless of their previous level.
The Department considers this expansion to demonstrate how a youth project can generate intergenerational interest. The requests received confirm the adult population's interest in this discipline.
The councilor for Childhood and Youth, Paula de Llanos Bustos, highlighted that the initial objective was to offer young people a different leisure alternative, but that listening to the demands of families and residents is fundamental. "If we have a space, a teacher, an activity that works, and adults who want to enjoy it, we think it's a good opportunity to open a door," she stated.
De Llanos Bustos added that this new possibility does not alter the club's essence, which will continue to prioritize children and young people. "We simply want to take advantage of an activity that is working so that as many residents as possible can enjoy its benefits, the better," she noted.
With this expansion, the City Council aims to continue responding to citizen proposals and consolidate initiatives born for children and youth as spaces for encounter for the entire population.
