These celebrations, distinguished by their self-managed nature and their origin in the neighborhood's social fabric, are not part of the official program of the Centro District or the Community of Madrid. Their essence lies in a commitment to free, open, and respectful activities, moving away from institutional involvement.
The main program will run from April 30 to May 3, partially coinciding with the Malasaña Baila 2026 festival, dedicated to dance. Although they do not feature large stages, the festivities maintain their participatory spirit with varied proposals in emblematic squares such as Dos de Mayo, Comendadoras, or San Ildefonso, in addition to the collaboration of numerous local establishments.
The inaugural day on Thursday, April 30, will include children's activities, virtual reality experiences, dance workshops, and a historical scavenger hunt about the 1808 uprising. A batucada parade will march through the streets to San Ildefonso Square, where it will culminate with musical performances.
“"The Dos de Mayo Festivities in Malasaña reflect the community spirit of the neighborhood, offering a self-managed and accessible cultural and leisure alternative for all residents."
Friday, May 1, and Saturday, May 2, will be filled with concerts by small groups, poetry recitals, dance classes, and cultural proposals such as guided tours on the Dos de Mayo theme. In the evening, neighborhood bars and venues will host live performances and DJ sessions, expanding the festive offerings.
Sunday, May 3, will close the festivities with more relaxed and family-friendly activities, such as outdoor yoga, chess, board games, and traditional Madrilenian dance exhibitions. All activities are free and will be held until full capacity is reached, reinforcing the community spirit that defines these celebrations.
