The Popular Party in the Madrid City Council has announced its intention to bring an initiative to the Cibeles Plenary to criticize the Central Government's migration policy. The proposal aims to censure the Executive's handling of the extraordinary regularization process for immigrants and to request the annulment of the Royal Decree supporting this measure.
A spokesperson for the PP in the City Council presented this initiative at a press conference held before the Plenary. The spokesperson accused the Central Government of burdening municipalities and autonomous communities with the administrative, social, and economic consequences of its migration policy, without providing the necessary resources to address them.
“"It has not given us information, it has kept us on the sidelines."
According to the spokesperson, the Royal Decree lacks adequate control mechanisms and violates European principles on migration, contradicting the objectives of the European Pact on Migration and Asylum. The spokesperson also noted that the regulation does not include a sufficient economic report to support the local administrations responsible for its implementation.
The Madrid City Council, according to the PP, is the city most affected by this situation. Municipal social and citizen services are experiencing increasing pressure, with demand for appointments rising from approximately 1,500 to over 5,000 daily. The municipal spokesperson criticized the Central Government's lack of coordination and support in the face of this increase in procedures and needs.
