The International Festival of Sacred Art (FIAS) of the Community of Madrid continues its program with a notable event at the Basílica de San Miguel. The ensemble Jácaras del Zéfiro will perform the program Avecillas. Música al Santísimo Sacramento, which includes the modern premiere of six vocal compositions from the 17th century.
These works, signed by composers such as Alonso de Torices, Sebastián Durón, Joan Barter, and Juan Hidalgo, along with an anonymous piece, have remained hidden for centuries in cathedral archives in cities like Barcelona, Burgos, Segovia, and Guatemala. Their recovery allows today's audience to hear them for the first time in a long while.
The proposal has a religious character and delves into the naturalistic aesthetic of the Baroque, using the symbolism of birds as a representation of the soul's ascent towards the divine.
The ensemble Jácaras del Zéfiro, led by the Granadan baritone Víctor Cruz, consists of a vocal quartet supported by instrumentalists playing viola da gamba and plucked strings, offering an interpretation faithful to the Baroque aesthetic.
The FIAS schedule will continue on Wednesday at the same Basílica de San Miguel with the ensemble Forma Antiqva, directed by Aarón Zapico and soprano Jone Martínez, who will present Sancta Ovetensis, a program dedicated to recovering works from the Chapter Archive of Oviedo Cathedral. On Thursday, the Capilla Real will host the concert Jubilet tota civitas, performed by the Hippocampus ensemble, founded by harpsichordist Alberto Martínez Molina, combining music and recitation with the participation of actress Gonzala Martín Scherman and sopranos Manon Chauvin and Agnieszka Grzywacz.
On Friday, the Real Coliseo Carlos III in San Lorenzo de El Escorial will be the setting for El camino de Simón de Cirene, a scenic-musical production directed by Ignacio García. The weekly cycle will conclude on Sunday at the Basílica de San Miguel with soprano María Espada and the orchestra La Madrileña, conducted by José Antonio Montaño, presenting Universo Bach.
