The neighborhood platform STOP Formula 1 Madrid, part of the Regional Federation of Neighborhood Associations of Madrid (FRAVM), has urged citizens to participate in a protest rally this Saturday, May 23rd. The event will take place at 11:30 AM at the Glorieta de Edimburgo, next to the Metro station Feria de Madrid, aiming to express rejection of the urban automotive track currently being built in the vicinity.
The organizers state that the construction work is directly affecting the daily lives of residents, creating mobility difficulties in the neighborhood and generating high levels of noise pollution and suspended particles. Furthermore, the group has highlighted the environmental impact of the works, including the felling of mature trees, much of which they claim has since dried out, as well as the occupation of drove roads and the affectation of various wetlands.
The focus of neighborhood discontent also lies in the anticipated impact of the circuit's operation once completed. Spokespersons for STOP Formula 1 Madrid warn that noise levels could exceed recommended comfort thresholds for residential areas, citing technical studies that, in similar contexts, have suggested it is inadvisable for residents to remain in their homes during events of this nature.
To illustrate the effects of the infrastructure, the platform has created a detailed map identifying educational, health, and elderly care centers near the track. This document, available on their official website, aims to visualize the extent of the acoustic impact on sensitive infrastructures in the area, thereby reinforcing the residents' demand to reconsider the projected urban circuit model.
