The Madrid City Council has reiterated its commitment to installing rubber flooring in the city's children's play areas, despite specific challenges encountered, such as in a park in Fuencarral-El Pardo.

Delegate Borja Carabante has advocated for the implementation of rubber as an effective measure to optimize safety, comfort, and accessibility in parks, especially for children with reduced mobility. He emphasized that the goal is to install it wherever technically feasible.

"As a general criterion, the idea is to install it in those places where it is possible."

The particular situation of the park in Fuencarral-El Pardo, where this material could not be installed, is due to drainage issues. Municipal technicians determined that rubber, unlike sand or soil, does not allow for adequate drainage and requires specific conditions for proper installation.
Carabante highlighted that this incident is an exception within the city's vast network, which includes approximately 3,800 green areas. The Council's objective is to extend this type of paving throughout the capital “as far as possible.”

"On this occasion, anecdotally, it cannot be installed, but we will do it as a general criterion in all parks."

Furthermore, the delegate acknowledged that the installation of this material entails “specific” maintenance, which represents an “additional effort” for the Madrid City Council to ensure its preservation and durability.
