The capital is gearing up to host the 13th edition of the charity race 'Madrid on the Move Against Cancer' on April 19, an event aiming to surpass 32,000 participants and raise funds for oncological research.

The Mayor of Madrid, José Luis Martínez-Almeida, presented the initiative at the Palacio de Cibeles, accompanied by the Delegate for Social Policies, Family and Equality, José Fernández, and the Councillor Delegate for Sports, Sonia Cea. During the event, Martínez-Almeida highlighted the city's pride in hosting this event, organized by the Spanish Association Against Cancer, recognizing its role as the leading institution in Spain dedicated to funding cancer research.

"There are few causes nobler than joining this race."

The Madrid mayor also emphasized the significant progress made in recent decades in cancer survival rates. He recalled that while in the 1990s the survival rate was 40 percent, it currently stands at 65 percent, with the ambitious goal of reaching 70 percent by 2030. To achieve this, he stressed the need for adequate and sufficient funding.
The race will take place on Sunday, April 19, starting at 9:00 AM from the Paseo de la Castellana and finishing at the Paseo de Recoletos, near Plaza de Colón. Two modalities will be offered: a main 10-kilometer route for runners and a 4.5-kilometer option open to both runners and walkers. Additionally, non-competitive children's races will be organized in the Jardines del Descubrimiento, promoting family participation and healthy habits from an early age.
Registrations for this charity event will be open until April 18 through the official website. All proceeds will be entirely dedicated to funding oncological research projects and strengthening the support services that the association provides to patients and their families.
