On May 1, 2026, Madrid will host multiple demonstrations organized by various trade unions and social collectives, leading to significant traffic disruptions in several areas of the city.

As is customary, International Workers' Day will bring together thousands of people in the streets of Madrid. The main trade unions, CCOO and UGT, have organized a joint march under the slogan “Rights, not trenches. Salary, housing and democracy.” This demonstration will begin at 12:00 PM on Gran Vía, at the corner with Alcalá, and will conclude at Plaza de España.
In addition to the main call, the intersectional and combative May 1st will gather unions such as CNT Madrid, CGT, and Solidaridad Obrera, along with tenant and neighborhood unions. Their route will start at 11:30 AM in Marqués de Vadillo and end at Parque Casino de la Reina, in Lavapiés, with the slogan “Against imperialism, class unity.”
Other organizations have also scheduled their own mobilizations. The Local Federation of Madrid of CNT-AIT has called a gathering at 12:00 PM at the Buenos Aires metro station, under the slogan “State and capital, criminal alliance.” Meanwhile, the Sindicato Único de Extremadura, the Sindicato de Transportes y Comunicación de Madrid, and Fesibac (CGT) will hold a concentration at 1:00 PM in Plaza del Reina Sofía, which will include performances by the groups Reincidentes and Lucy.
The Coordinadora Juvenil Socialista joins this year with a march that will depart at 12:00 PM from Plaza Roja de Vallecas (Plaza de la Constitución) and will go through the streets of the Puente de Vallecas district, with the slogan “For the defeat of the genocidal axis.” Finally, USO has called its own demonstration at 11:00 AM, which will go from Paseo de las Delicias to Plaza de las Cortes, with an estimated arrival at 12:30 PM.
Due to these mobilizations, significant traffic cuts and disruptions are expected on various roads in the capital. Among the most affected areas will be Gran Vía and Plaza de España (from 10:30 AM to 3:00 PM, and Gran Vía from 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM for setup and dismantling), Paseo de las Delicias, Ferrocarril street, Plaza del Emperador Carlos V, Paseo del Prado, and Plaza de las Cortes (between 10:30 AM and 1:30 PM). Incidents are also expected on Avenida de la Albufera, Glorieta del Marqués de Vadillo, Puente de Toledo, and Avenida de Buenos Aires at different times throughout the day.
