The president of the Federation of Municipalities of Madrid has expressed concern about the situation faced by the region's city councils. According to the leader, the Government's migration policy, implemented through a royal decree, is creating unsustainable pressure on social services, schooling, security, and administrative care in local administrations.
The main criticism focuses on the approval of the measure without adequate planning or prior dialogue with local administrations. Municipalities such as Madrid, Pinto, Valdemoro, Alcorcón, and Alcalá de Henares are already experiencing a direct impact, bearing an increasing burden without having been informed or involved in the policy's design.
“"Without prior information or institutional coordination, city councils are facing this situation."
Furthermore, the lack of communication from the central Executive is being denounced. Neither the Government Delegation, nor the competent Secretary of State, nor the Ministry of Migration have contacted city councils to coordinate a response to a decision that directly affects local management. The decree also does not include any extraordinary financial allocation, forcing local entities to bear the practical cost of a state policy without additional resources.
The president warns that the situation could worsen in the coming weeks, with an increase in demand for municipal services that is not met by adequate state planning. Therefore, she has demanded the withdrawal of the royal decree and requested an urgent meeting with the Government Delegation to address the impact of regularization on Madrid's municipalities, insisting that without coordination, funding, and resources, city councils cannot bear this burden.
