The Madrid City Council has launched the support phase for the 2026 Participatory Budget, allowing residents over 16 to back citizen proposals until June 30.

Following an initial technical review, 1,781 initiatives have passed the first stage out of 2,382 projects submitted. This edition features a total budget of 50 million euros, with 15 million allocated to city-wide projects and the remainder distributed among the districts.
In the Hortaleza district, 97 projects are now open for support, with an allocated budget of 2,088,977 euros. Proposals range from accessibility improvements and urban furniture to new sports facilities and the rehabilitation of green areas, such as the Movimiento Vecinal park.
Key city-wide initiatives include the expansion of Bicimad in Hortaleza and Ciudad Lineal, as well as a new bike lane connecting Valdebebas to Chamartín. Residents have also shown interest in upgrades for summer swimming pools and municipal sports centers.
Participation is available via the Decide Madrid digital platform or by submitting signature sheets at municipal registry offices. Following this stage, technical staff will assess the feasibility and costs of the most supported projects for inclusion in the 2028 and 2029 budgets.
