The Madrid region has seen significant improvement in all three subjects evaluated in the 2025 study, ranking first in Spain for Mathematics and Sciences, and second for Reading, just two points shy of topping that category as well.
These results, placing the Community of Madrid well above the average for the EU and the OECD, highlight the excellence of its schools and the regional government's commitment to an educational model that has set historical records this year in budget, teachers, scholarships, and family aid.
The PISA study confirms that Madrid students achieve higher scores in Mathematics than their counterparts in Finland, Sweden, Denmark, the United States, France, and Germany. In Sciences, they outperform students from Belgium, Sweden, and the Netherlands, and in Reading, they surpass those from Norway, Germany, Lithuania, and France.
In Mathematics, Madrid's 15-year-old students scored 477 points, leading the national ranking and exceeding the global average for Spain by 20 points and the OECD and EU average by 14 points. In Sciences, the 495 points achieved represent the highest score in Spain, 18 points above the Spanish average.
In the Reading competition, Madrid's 469 points place it just two points away from a complete PISA leadership sweep, surpassing the Spanish average by 18 points.
These findings coincide with the start of the 2026/27 academic year and reinforce the regional government's measures to counteract the effects of the state educational law LOMLOE. An additional 673 teachers have been announced to bolster Mathematics and Reading instruction, alongside over 1,200 more teachers compared to the previous year.
