The debut of this proposal in the region is part of the LIBROMAD program, the new Madrid Book Week. This event replaces the traditional Night of the Books and seeks to enhance the prominence of bookstores in this important celebration of reading.
With the participation of 108 bookstores, the Community of Madrid is positioned among the territories with the highest involvement in this international network, highlighting the vitality of the bookselling sector in the region. Between April 23 and 26, readers will have the opportunity to visit bookstores in various municipalities, create their own routes, and be part of a shared experience that takes place simultaneously in multiple countries.
The proposal transforms visiting bookstores into a participatory experience that combines discovery, play, and community.
The Global Book Crawl offers a simple dynamic: participants can obtain a passport at any of the participating bookstores and get it stamped at each stop on their itinerary. Those who visit at least six bookstores between Thursday, April 23, and Saturday, April 25, can present their completed passport at the closing event of LIBROMAD. This will take place in Plaza de España on Sunday, April 26, from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM, where they can exchange it for a gift while supplies last.
This initiative, born from the desire to connect independent bookstores globally, represents a collective response to the dominance of large platforms and cultural homogenization. More than just a one-time event, the Global Book Crawl functions as an active network that supports bookstores throughout the year, fostering collaborative projects and facilitating the exchange of experiences between different territories. Its success has already been demonstrated in countries such as Australia, the United States, Guatemala, and Switzerland.
