The Community of Madrid has been announced as the guest of honor region for the twentieth edition of the Medellín Book and Culture Fair, set to take place in 2027. In that same year, the Colombian city will hold the title of World Book Capital, under the slogan 'Reading is breathing and breathing is reading,' following its designation by UNESCO.
This literary event, one of the most significant in Colombia and with considerable projection in Latin America, has been held since 2007. It has established itself as a meeting point for readers, writers, illustrators, publishers, and booksellers, with a focus on nurturing new audiences and promoting access to written culture.
The fair's program will blend publishing and commercial activities with a wide range of initiatives for reading promotion, workshops, performances, and exhibitions, aimed at diverse audiences. Madrid's participation is part of a broader program called 'Medellín Book Events'.
As guest of honor, and in collaboration with the Madrid Book Chamber, the regional government will internationally showcase Madrid's publishing sector and foster connections with professionals and entities from Colombia and other Latin American countries. They will have a dedicated space in the Azaleas Courtyard of the Botanical Garden, hosting performances, conferences, meetings, and a gastronomic area featuring Madrid products.
The Community of Madrid is recognized as a major publishing and literary hub in the Hispanic world. Its participation will be structured around four key areas: literature and creation; publishing houses and bookstores; reading promotion; and Madrid as a literary setting.
