Overnight stays in hotel establishments in the Community of Madrid reached a total of 2,421,276 in June, representing a 1.2% increase compared to the same month last year. This data, published by the National Statistics Institute (INE), marks the fifteenth consecutive month of growth in this indicator.
The number of tourists staying in the region's hotels also saw a year-on-year rise of 1.41% in June, reaching 1,199,893 travelers. Of these, 578,040 were residents of Spain (48.17%), while 621,852 were from abroad (51.83%). Domestic travelers grew by 4.2%, but foreign travelers decreased by 1.1%.
Overnight stays by Spanish residents amounted to 988,985 (40.85%), compared to 1,432,291 by international residents (59.15%), highlighting the importance of international tourism for the region.
The average daily room rate stood at 161.14 euros, 4.6% higher than the previous year. Overall hotel prices rose by 2.9%, reflecting an upward trend in Madrid's hotel sector.
Hotel occupancy in the region reached 62.62% in June. The sector employed 17,786 people, a 5.3% increase from the previous year, demonstrating growing dynamism in tourism employment generation.
Nationally, Balearic Islands led in occupancy per bed (82.5%), followed by Canary Islands (70.13%) and Valencian Community (68.33%). On the other hand, Castilla - La Mancha (36.15%), Extremadura (38.64%), and Ceuta (38.95%) recorded the lowest rates.
Regarding total overnight stays in Spain, the Balearic Islands accounted for the largest percentage (24.84%), followed by Catalonia (17.43%) and Andalusia (15.63%). The Community of Madrid is positioned as a relevant region, although with a lower concentration of overnight stays compared to these traditional destinations.
