The President of the Community of Madrid, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, has presented the premiere of the Eusko Label and Euskotren rowing leagues, which will arrive in the region for the first time on June 27th and 28th. "Major events should also be celebrated in all municipalities, full of history, charm, and of which we are deeply proud," she emphasized.
The Riosequillo reservoir in Buitrago del Lozoya will host the season's start, which will conclude on September 20th in Portugalete (Vizcaya). At the event, held at the Real Casa de Postas, Díaz Ayuso signed a collaboration agreement with the president of the Association of Rowing Clubs (ACT), Borja Rodrigo, and the mayor of Buitrago, Javier del Valle, for the organization of this sporting event.
The head of the regional executive stated that Madrid is "deeply proud" of the sport, culture, and traditions "from all corners of the country," and encouraged participation in this "magnificent occasion" to enjoy "all the good that Spain has to offer."
As a result of this agreement, the Community of Madrid will lend its name to one of the flags that will officially open the 2026 season of the main trainera competitions. The men's regatta will be named Bandera Pueblos con Vida Comunidad de Madrid, while the women's race will be held under the name Bandera Canal de Isabel II 175 aniversario.
Traineras are traditional fixed-seat rowing boats, deeply rooted in northern Spain. The competition will be held in a time-trial format in pairs, with six lengths and five turns (ciabogas) in the men's category, and four lengths and three turns in the women's. The ACT, an entity founded in 2003, groups the 20 main clubs in this discipline from northern Spain.
The objective of this collaboration is to attract tourism and stimulate local economic activity in the towns of the Sierra Norte. It will also contribute to reinforcing opportunities and promoting Buitrago del Lozoya as a sporting hub.
