The Mayor of Madrid, José Luis Martínez-Almeida, accompanied by the Deputy Mayor and Delegate for Security and Emergencies, Inma Sanz, presided this morning at the Casa de Campo over a tribute ceremony. The event recognized the commitment, dedication, and professionalism of the 272 municipal security and emergency service professionals who retired throughout 2025.
Of those honored, 223 belong to the Municipal Police, 40 to the Municipal Firefighters Corps, and nine to SAMUR-Civil Protection. Mayor Almeida emphasized that the ceremony is a recognition of those who "for so many years gave their best" to make Madrid "a safer city" and to ensure that public services "are always there when they are needed most."
The professionals received a commemorative diploma and a keepsake as a symbol of the city's gratitude. The mayor highlighted that these public servants have served the city through decades of its most difficult moments, from the 11-M attacks to the pandemic and Filomena storm. He also recalled that the recent operation during the visit of Pope León XIV demonstrated "the extraordinary functioning of public services."
Since Almeida became mayor, an unprecedented effort has been made to equip these essential municipal services with the best material and human resources, streamlining recruitment processes with the goal of reaching 10,000 personnel by 2027. "Following your example, your work, and your effort is the best path we have towards a better future," the mayor stated.
