Deputy Mayor and municipal spokesperson, Inma Sanz, announced a multi-year investment of 1.1 million euros to maintain the essential technical support for the Family Card. Since its inception in 2020, the City Council has distributed over 52,000 cards, with a total investment exceeding 58 million euros.
This contract focuses exclusively on the technical management of the card, which has a budget of 19.5 million euros for 2026, with the possibility of expansion if demand requires it. The extended contract also includes a user support service, available by phone and electronically, to provide information on balances, transactions, and technical assistance.
Beneficiaries of the Family Card have access to a mobile application that allows them to monitor their account status, consumption, establishments where the card has been used, and recharge details, thus facilitating better financial planning. This tool, created in 2020 in response to the social emergency caused by the COVID-19 crisis, has become a permanent resource.
In 2024, four specific offices were established for processing the Family Card, aiming to relieve social services centers of administrative burdens. Thanks to the work of the 60 professionals staffing these offices, bureaucratic processing time has been reduced by 62 %, from 37 to 14 days in two years, ensuring aid reaches those in need more quickly.
The granting of the Family Card is contingent on social intervention, meaning recipients must agree to engage in a support process. Municipal social services centers assess the need and assign a professional for follow-up, facilitating access to training and employment resources to foster user autonomy. In December 2025, the Department of Social Policies, Family and Equality raised the income threshold for beneficiaries by 10 %, setting it at 752 euros, with monthly allocations ranging from 146 to 735 euros depending on income and family unit size.
