During 2025, the Madrid City Council managed the collection of 1,187,170 tons of waste, with the Central District generating the largest volume. This figure highlights the scale of waste management in the capital.
In terms of urban quality of life, Madrid has been recognized as the second-best city in the world for walking, according to the 'Best 100 Walking Cities' ranking. This acknowledgment underscores the infrastructure and pedestrian-friendly environment in the metropolis.
The city's urban planning policy is also undergoing significant changes. Real estate developers will assume greater burdens in exchange for increased building capacity, in an effort to boost urban growth. This plan could result in the construction of up to 300,000 new homes in the southern developments, potentially increasing the population from 327,000 to 800,000 residents.
On the sports and cultural front, Madrid hosted the 48th edition of the Marathon, which brought together nearly 47,000 runners across its various modalities. This event, known as the Zurich Rock'n'Roll Running Series Madrid, is consolidating its position as Spain's largest popular athletics event. Furthermore, the city was the scene of major cultural events, such as the tribute concert to Manuel de Falla, starring Bertrand Chamayou alongside the Orquesta y Coro Nacionales de España at the Auditorio Nacional.
